Description

medical diagnostic feline leukemia virus/feline immunodeficiency virus ab test

Introduction

Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) is a typical C-type oncovirus. It is the main cause of death among
cats. It mainly affects cats under 5 years old and overcrowded. It spreads through licking, biting
and ingestion of excretions and secretions. A 27 kilodalton protein moiety, p27, is a structural
component of the inner viral core and is the major FeLV group-specific antigen. It can be found in
great abundance in the cytoplasm of infected leukocytes and platelets and in soluble form in the
plasma and serum of viremic cats. Positive detection of protein p27, the positive result, implicates
that at least infected blood cells have shed the FeLV p27 in the circulating blood fraction.
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) develops a slow infection, characterized by mainly
affecting lymphocytes and macrophages, particularly CD4-marked lymphocytes, resembling the
human immunodeficiency virus. It usually appears after 5 years of age due to its prolonged
incubation period. It can also be transmitted through close and prolonged contact and by
transplacental infection and through colostrum. Once the individual is infected it remains as a
carrier for life. FIV is isolated in saliva, blood, tears and cerebrospinal fluid. From the infected
cats two thirds do not develop the disease cause by this virus (unlike the HIV), in the remaining
third the virus modifies the immune response, causing the immunodeficiency that eventually
leads to secondary infections that may cause animal death.

Principles

FeLV Ag / FIV Ab test kit is for the simultaneous detection of FeLV p27 antigens
and anti-FIV antibodies in whole blood, serum or plasma. The test results can appear on Control
(C) and Test (T) lines where the principles of immunochromatography are used.

Materials (10 tests/kit)
1)  Test --------------------------------------------------------------- 10 units
2)  Diluent (buffer) ------------------------------------------------- 3 x 1 unit
3)  Disposable dropper for sample collection   ------------ 10 units

Composition
Specimen well (S: for dropping), Test line (T), and Control line (C) are marked on the device.
Inside it, the strip is composed of sample pad, conjugate pad, nitrocellulose membrane (test
paper), and absorbent pad

Precautions

1)  Use for feline In-vitrodiagnostic purposes only.
2)  Use within 10 minutes after opening the pouch because the test kit is very sensitive to
moisture and its effect may diminish.
3)  Be careful of not touching the result window.
4)  Every specimen should be used with different droppers.
5)  For testing, buffer included only should be used.
6)   Do not use specimen showing hemolysis or being contaminated with microbes, which
may cause false-positive or negative result.
7)   Deal with specimen carefully. They can deliver unknown virus or infectious bacteria.
8)   Use disposable gloves when you suspect the infection caused by specimen. And wash
your hands later.
9)   Dispose solid wastes after sterilizing them at 121 °Cfor over 1 hour.
10)  Do not the kit use when its pouch is torn, sealing is not good shape and expiration date
passes.

Storage method

The test kits store at 2~30°Ccan be used for 18 months after manufacturing. Do not keep
them in refrigerator. However, if they are stored under cold circumstances, keep them at room
temperature for 15 ~ 30 minutes before use.

Exchange

The test kits are manufactured under strict quality control system. Nevertheless, if they
deteriorate during delivery, ask our distributors for exchange.
